My Views On God and Creation
|
Tiger's Flight, oil, 46x72 Tiger's Flight is a portrait of Tiger, a 26-year old female golden eagle who lives at the Southeastern Raptor Rehabilitation Center at Auburn University. This painting is in the permanent collection of the School of Forestry and Wildlife Sciences, Auburn University. This magnificent bird, whose wingspan measures nearly 8 feet across, flew for me as I photographed her for this painting, landing on the ground in front of me to pick up a snack placed there by her trainer. She cannot be released into the wild because she was imprinted by contact with humans as an eaglet. I placed her in a Rocky Mountain setting to commemorate her flight in the opening ceremonies of the Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, Utah. Many people believe that she happened totally as an accident of nature.

Many people think they know just about everything there is to know about God. I think that for the most part, they are delusional. Some people think there is no God. I think they are stupid and ignorant. I sometimes force myself to read letters to the editor in the local newspaper written by people who think they are the source for all knowledge on either one side or the other of questions about God. All their ranting just proves to me that they are not. My belief is that humans are far too stupid to know very much at all about the universe and its origins.
I am amused by those who have pat answers for any question about where we came from and where we are going. If a person believes that he or she knows exactly what happens to us when we die, even though they really don't, what harm is that? However, a person who believes that the universe and all its contents is just a big accident is dangerous. If we are accidents, and there is no God, then there are no rules, except the ones that we choose to make. If we want to take what our neighbor has, why not? The animals do the same. If there is no God, and we are simply accidents, and when we die, we simply disappear, then nothing really matters at all. If there is a God, and we are His creation, then everything matters.
I can see how a person can look at a beautiful scene and say that it just happened. The Earth's crust just pushed together and made some mountains. But I don't understand how a person can look at a cheetah, or an eagle, and say that it just happened. The idea that if you leave a pond filled with water and algae and return in a few billion years, cheetahs, eagles, and humans will have formed quite by accident out of that pond, is laughable. The idea is patently absurd. The whole notion of everything just happening by accident is so stupid that it pains me to even address the issue. I force myself to write about it because there are so many people who believe that it is true who use positions of authority and influence to intimidate others into accepting this farce. Those who subscribe to Darwin's theory of evolution do not believe it because they have examined all the facts with objectivity and come to the conclusion that there can be no other plausible explanation. They believe it because they have been told by people who like to be addressed by their level of "education" that all educated people accept it as fact. In fact, truly educated people recognize it as utter stupidity.
Darwin's "theory" (It's really only a hypothesis) says that organisms become more complex when mutations or changes occur that are beneficial to the survivability of that organism (natural selection), which are then passed on to their offspring, thus increasing their chances of survival and longevity. These changes, according to this hypothesis, account for, over billions of years, the great diversity of all the animals and plants on the Earth. As "proof" we are directed to the observable changes that have occurred over time in animals such as those which live in isolated places such as the Galapagos Islands. There is no question that animals do adapt to their environment and pass those changes, however slight, to their offspring. However, these changes are always changes in the size, shape, color, etc., of the animal. No changes have ever been observed of one animal evolving into a different species, or of a previously nonexistent organ appearing.
No plausible explanation based on natural selection can be given for the existence of the eyes of the eagle, or for the feathers of the eagle. If you have heard of an explanation, I'd love to hear it. The truth is, the eye of the eagle is essential for its survival. If only one part had not yet evolved, the eagle would not exist. If only one part was missing, the sum of all the other parts would be completely without purpose, and the retention of those non-functioning parts would be of no use whatever to the bird. There would be, therefore, no reason for these non-functioning eyes to be passed on to the bird's offspring, since they do not enhance the survivability of the creature. We would see sightless eagles bumping into things in search of food, while they patiently waited for hundreds of millions of years for those lenses to finally get here. And those feathers...I have actually read in biology textbooks that feathers evolved from reptilian scales when the scales became frayed and were passed on the the reptile's offspring. That is so dumb that it doesn't even need a response. Do you know that the primary feathers on the wing of an eagle (actually, on all flying birds) have a shaft that is not centered on the feather? This causes the feather to twist back and forth as the wings beat. On the down-stroke, the primary feathers are pushed together, sealing the wing for greater lift. On the up-stroke, they twist and separate, allowing air to pass between them as the wing goes back up for a new batch of air. Imagine all those birds millions of years ago, unable to get off the ground because their off-centered primaries hadn't evolved yet. Of course they would never have evolved since the completely-functioning set is required for them to be of any use whatsoever. If they are of no use whatsoever, they would never have been passed on to the offspring. Duh!
The only plausible
explanation is that all these things were designed by someone with power and
intellect far beyond ours. There is no other explanation. We call
that someone God. Other problems enter when some people think they have
God all figured out.
You can't figure God out. Your brain doesn't go
that high. Your brain doesn't even begin to go that high. Einstein's brain
didn't begin to go that high. Some religious people think they have Him
all figured out. They claim to know that if you don't go to the right kind
of church that God will torture you for eternity in a burning pit. They claim
that if you go to church, but don't get the worship service exactly right (say,
you don't drink grape juice at the correct intervals), you will also burn
forever in that fiery pit. Some religious people say that God has spoken to them
and told them to do things, mostly about raising money or killing people.
He hasn't said anything at all to me. He has spoken to all of us about His
existence through the things that He has made. I just have to trust that
as He has so perfectly made all these things, He will also do the right thing
with us when we die.
