Why do people make art?

· Art for daily living (clothing, furniture, houses, eating utensils, etc.)

· Art for religious purposes (Sculpture, paintings, architecture)

· Art for political purposes (Statues, paintings, monuments, etc.)

· Art as a social statement (Usually in the form of a protest)

· Art as a statement of one's status in society (Monument, statue, portrait)

· Art as storytelling (Egyptian tomb art, Horace Pippins’ John Brown…”)

· Art to commemorate an event (Vietnam Memorial)

· Fantasy art (Sandy Skoglund’s Radioactive Cats)

· Art for art's sake (Camille Korry’s nudes)

· Art and nature (Frederick Edwin Church’s landscapes)

· Art as a record of one's existence (portrait or self-portrait)
